Prerequisite
Tools needed to build the BowlerKit Kotlin Multiplatform template for Android and iOS.
Knowledge requirements
You should be comfortable with Kotlin, coroutines and StateFlow, Jetpack Compose for Android, and SwiftUI for iOS. Account projects also use Laravel authentication/admin services and a protected Go mobile API; Guest projects do not require a backend.
Required tools
| Tool | Version | Needed for |
|---|---|---|
| JDK | 21 (the Gradle daemon requires it) | Android and shared code |
| Gradle | 9.8.0 (use the project wrapper) | Builds |
| Android SDK | platform 37 | Android |
| Xcode | An installation with an iOS 17 or newer SDK | iOS, macOS only |
With a KMP-enabled BowlerKit CLI, run the framework check:
bowler doctor kmpAndroid builds need an Android SDK and a connected device or emulator. The iOS app and iOS-target Kotlin tests need macOS; the template includes an Apple Silicon simulator target (iosSimulatorArm64).
The template targets Android API 37 (minimum API 24) and iOS 17. On macOS, Gradle defaults to the iOS-only module graph. Pass -Pbowlerkit.iosOnly=false when building Android, as shown in Quick Start.
Firebase configuration is needed for Account push and Google sign-in, not for Guest startup. See Quick Start for the native configuration files.
